Myth, Magic, Medicine

The Myth gives Psyche a story to orient herself.  The Magic gives her an experience to immerse herself in.  And The Medicine is what you create when you return Home to Self-Attune.

A Letter to You

The Journey from Spiritual Homelessness to Spiritual Homemaking

Beloved,

The spiritual homelessness you might feel often comes from getting lost in the corridors of the mind, rather than inhabiting the body and experiencing the life of the body…

I call this an immaturity of the mind: a vagabond inner child that was trained by the culture to live in the head (“I think, therefore I am”).

We were disconnected from the body, from the Earth’s body, and from the present moment, which is where our true power really is.

Maturity, for me, has been about training my mind to stay Home, close to my body.

My mind can be in many places at once, but my body can only be in the room I’m in. So I was self-abandoning when I was chronically living in my head.

There is

the life
of the mind

its interests, the scenarios it plays…

And there is

the life
of the body

its needs, its longings, its HUNGER.

The Hunger…

Oh, the hunger.

The hunger of the animal body to be met with tenderness, to be loved properly.

The Hunger…

Oh, the hunger.

The hunger of the creature to participate fully, with all the senses, in the deliciousness of life.

The Hunger…

Oh, the hunger.

The Soul’s hunger for beauty, for slowness, for ritual, for Soul-to-Soul encounters…

My name is Mariela, and I know that hunger… in.my.bones!

Hungry & Homesick

When I felt I had “lost my Soul,” when I was trying to “cure my anxiety,” when I was desperate to “heal my depression” and “regulate my nervous system,” I was actually experiencing a deep sense of hunger… for my own loving attention, for The Mother Web, for a spiritual connection with the living cosmos.

My Soul/body was hungry, and also homesick.

The Divine Nourishment

The Moon’s Feast

I had spent years eating the dry crackers of self-help, but what my body/Soul needed was a deeper kind of nourishment, a divine form of nourishment.

And The Moon was the first of “the gods” (planets) to invite me to her feast: a benevolent feast of safety and security inside my own body.

The Moon is the part of us that governs our emotional/energetic waters. She is an archetype we can cultivate inside of us, a planetary frequency we can co-regulate with.

We pray with our focus,
and our focus has been stolen.

It’s time to bring it back to the sacred, and to where our real power lies: in the force of our nature that resides in the body, in our very flesh!

The flesh is not something to fear or hate. It's something to celebrate! We are souls incarnate (carne means flesh!). Our bodies make our reality-creation possible.

“Come Home! Come Home, my child.
The Mother is calling you back into Life.
You are my divine child, a little node in my field, a body inside my divine body.”

The Hero’s Return

A Gift, with Open Hands

A glowing moon held in open hands: Moonlight Reiki

To me, the journey back Home was a heroic journey. And at the end of every heroic journey, the hero returns to the community with a gift.

This is mine.

This program (and its accompanying app) holds what my personal Psyche learned through her Underworld journey: how she built herself a ladder by tending and befriending her animal body, and by reconnecting with her Soul (Anima) and the Soul of the World (Anima Mundi).

What I offer you with open hands is what I wish I’d had during my own journey from Self-Abandonment to Self-Attunement.

It is here to support your journey from Spiritual Homelessness to Spiritual Homemaking.

Come Home, beloved.

With each return to your body, to your breath, to your skin, you are repatterning self-abandonment, reprogramming your psyche, and repairing the mind/body split.

Let’s say you lost your way in the wilderness.

Okay. It has happened to the best of us.

The culture trains us to leave, to go hustle.

But you are invited now to practice the path back Home until it becomes a trail, a familiar path Home where Love can reign.

No fear no more.

This is about divine inhabitation.

The Moon is the Divine Mother,
and she is calling you Home.

Reverent Mariela

Mariela Pérez-Simons · MFA · MDiv

Mariela in white lace on her bed beneath fairy lights, holding a white book marked with an M, a Mother Myth

I like to think of myself as a Medicinal Mythologist and a Magic Maker.

I hold a Master of Fine Arts in Writing (storytelling) and a Master of Divinity. I have spent my life studying what a sacred story can do: how a beautiful myth can reach (and nourish) the subconscious in a way information can't.

I know the power of a sacred story to transform a psyche, and a people. That is why Psyche Returns Home is told as a myth and not a lesson, so it can be received in the body, like a soothing bedtime story.

As a multi-passionate Manifesting Generator (in Human Design) I have had many careers (writer, web designer, photographer, minister...) and they all meet here now, to nourish your Soul's hunger.

Four Hungers

The Hungers of the Soul

The Hunger · I

The Hunger of the Animal Body

In this story, Psyche returns home, encounters her frightened animal body, and learns to approach it with tenderness.

Instead of treating her body’s responses as something she must constantly regulate or manage, she begins to listen, attune, and care for her energy—the way her higher self would, the way a loving mother would, the way The Benevolence of Life would.

The Hunger · II

The Hunger for Beauty, Enchantment & Divine Nourishment

There is another hunger of the modern soul: the hunger for beauty and enchantment. This sanctuary provides nourishment to satisfy that deep well. I call it Medicinal Magic.

Medicinal Magic is the art of creating multisensory immersions that invite Psyche to soften and simply receive—a myth read to her like a bedtime story, calming soundscapes, hypnotizing imagery, ASMR, and enchanting visual details.

It is an artform I developed naturally that invites the nervous system to settle so that new patterns of safety can take root in the soil of the subconscious mind. It is the medicine of attunement and entrainment. Psyche attunes to and entrains with the soothing beauty, gently shifting her energy and welcoming subconscious reorganization.

One of my guiding questions is:

“Is it delicious though?”

Everyone is trying to pull us into their programs, but I have to ask:

“Are they trying to feed my mind with words and starve my Soul?”
“Is this going to further separate me from my body?”
“Is it delicious though?”

If not, I don’t want it! I have no interest in perpetuating the split between the mind and the body. Ultimately, this sanctuary is about creating the conditions in which the human psyche can thrive—deliciously, gently, and satisfyingly.

Rest here for seven minutes. Put on your headphones, let your shoulders drop, and let the story begin to hold you.

The Hunger · III

The Hunger for Rhythm & Sacred Order

Our animal body and soul have a primal hunger for rhythm and ritual.

Inside this sanctuary, we support that hunger through the teachings of The Sacred Circle and the living architecture of The House of Religare with its Four Pillars:

Ritual
Intentional thresholds of devotion and pause
Rhythm
Harmonizing with the natural rhythm of the body
Resonance
Finding what resonates with our Soul
Relationship
Restoring sacred kinship the world around us

This offers Psyche a tangible, hospitable structure for practicing her return home.

The Hunger · IV

The Hunger for Sovereignty & Agency

And there is one more essential hunger: the hunger for agency.

The hunger to feel that you can participate directly in the quality of your own inner life. Because you were created as a free, sovereign being, you have power. You have autonomy. You have agency.

Overall, this story and the practices that accompany it are an invitation to participate in your own nourishment and in creating your own medicine.

Because You Are the Medicine, Beloved!

Only you can bring love and conscious presence to the moment you are currently inhabiting.

I invite you to use that sovereignty to begin creating the conditions for the flourishing of your own psyche—so she can be restored to her original beauty, claim her original medicine, and bring all of that back as a gift to The Mother Web.

And to accompany every step of that journey, the Moon is there as part of The Benevolence of Life.

Experience what becomes possible when our Awareness (the Mind / Vision) meets our Aliveness (the Body / Shakti) and the two learn to live in harmony.
